Y’all are probably sick of me asking favors of you, but I’m going to ask again anyway.
Just spent some time this morning putting together a big list of sexuality, or related-to-sexuality orgs for my publicist for the book over at Avalon, but it was a very basic list, made primarily of very large organizations.
So, if any of you can think of (or run) other orgs — and that can be anything from organizations dedicated to sexual health, teen issues, feminist issues, GLBT/Intersex/Gender ID issues, prevention of sexual violence, body image, to clinics, school programs, collectives, magazines — you think or know would appreciate review copies, can you post’em, with contact info, in the comments here?
I just want us to make as effective a blitz as possible, and I’d hate to miss out on smaller orgs or collectives, given my loyalites.
Thanks! News is that at this point, the book is slated to hit all shelves on May 22nd. So close!
(More tomorrow once Dad has gone home: it’s been a jam-packed week. I so badly wanted the time and emotional energy to write about the tragedy that is the fourth anniversary of our invasion of Iraq, but it will have to wait for another couple of days. Starhawk, as ever, had some perfect things to say, though, so I direct you to her instead.)

Here in Burlington, VT we’ve got a great organization called R.U.1.2? (www.ru12.org), which offers support groups, sex ed info, free HIV testing, and also engages in legislative activism and works specifically to end violence and discrimination against the queer community. The Executive Director is Kara DeLeonardis (kara@ru12.org); their mailing address is PO Box 5883, Burlington, VT 05402.
Hope that’s the kind of place you were looking for.

The Victoria Youth Clinic (www.victoriayouthclinic.ca) here in Victoria BC is an awesome organization that runs two absolutely free clinics for youth ages 12-24, with the goal of providing health care to those who may otherwise not be able to get it. Can’t for the life of me find an executive director’s name, but the mailing addresses for their two locations are:
533 Yates Street
Victoria BC V8W 1K7
phone #: 250-383-3552
547 Michigan Street
Victoria BC V8V 1S5
phone #: 250-388-7841
Hope this is helpful!

I’ve never been so sorry to be old(er). I wish you and all this had been available then, for me. Fortunately, I’ve found you, now.

Barbara La Croix should review your book.
Barbara is the CWHN staffer who wrote “I am Barbara” in response to loophole advertising for a weight loss drug pitched from huge billboards to women who wanted to lose 10 lbs “so I can strip for my husband”. The pharma website and 1-800 number were decoratively near Julie’s size 8 tush. Julie had no head! But you knew that… .
Direct to consumer advertising is illegal in Canada, but pharma found a way to hawk a dangerous drug developed for eating disorders to normal weight women.
Barbara should review your book:

Pony, you are such a gem.
All of you, thanks.
(And Karyn, I do think I will wind up doing some promo in Victoria. From the looks of things, spending extra time blitzing the left coast may wind up being more productive than taking the few weeks I was going to in the fall, after being lighter about things here, to go work the east. I’ll by all means keep you posted. And if you have any dance performances coming up, let me know! I’d love to try and coincide a Victoria stay with seeing you perform, and I have a very unwilling ballet-going chum here, so it’s best I see it on my own time.)
Kat! So glad to see you back! How was your time away?

Dunno whether you’re interested in Canada, but York U in Toronto has just launched the first Children’s Studies Program, aiming to look at children and childhood (up to 18 years of age) the way Women’s Studies programs look at gender/power/etc. The archive there would benefit from your book - I keep pointing them at your AGA so that they can see what young women are accomplishing these days.
