If you want comprehensive information about teen sex and pregnancy this entry sure was it for me. Tackling the issue on so many fronts. Love it!

The two that resonated with me most - getting men to use condoms and making sex such a special act only makes it more attractive to people in that special lovey-dovey time. I totally agree.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, on many many counts. Despite thinking I'm reasonably well-informed and assertive on most fronts, it's always incredibly reassuring to read something that confirms I'm not crazy, I'm not imagining these attitudes, and it is *okay* to say anything about them.

You really are marvellous.

I've been considering this question lately. Capitalism as it is currently constituted atomizes society. The market must do this if it is to fulfill its imperative for allocative efficiency. Perfect mobility of labor requires that we break any "uneconomic" notions of community and become a free-flowing sea of humanity, flowing to more profitable regions and industries that need labor and retreating from less profitable regions and industries that are outdated.

The economy as presently constituted undermines the bonds of community and family and the sense of place from which we create our meaning. Young people are particularly vulnerable to this as many have grown up knowing nothing else. No wonder life feels so meaningless for many teens. I know I felt that way. No wonder suicide has become the number one cause of death for teens. I've tried to kill myself twice.

This all leads into this question for you, Heather. When you talk to teenage girls, do they ever say that they want to have a child because then they won't be lonely? If so, how often?

Also, have you ever written an op-ed for a newspaper? If not, you really should. People who haven't already joined the choir need to hear this.
