..And now I've seen the clip on both CNN and on my local news. That just plain old sucks how they panned the image of you while you were speaking. :(

I am so sorry about this. I've been awol for a bit, but these past few posts have just left me flabbergasted.

I just wanted to write a quick response and give you my long-distance and anonymous love and support. What your doing, and continue to do for those around you, is awe-inspiring and wonderful.

I've always been convinced that people who hold opinions based on shaky ground always make the most noise- this certainly seems to be true for a lot of the people commenting on those blogs.

Like Kris said, I don't understand why any of these people aren't looking at their own reactions to the shirt and thinking "hmm, now why did I react this way? Why does seeing the survivor of a rape talk about the experience bother me so much?"

Considering how much our society seems to enjoy all the juicy details of rape culture (how many prime time TV shows are dedicated to showing women as victims? Off the top of my head: Law & Order, CSI, Dateline's To Catch a Predator), I really am surprised by the backlash, at the least the tone of the backlash.

I can understand how initially seeing the shirt would make someone feel uncomfortable or unsure as to how they're supposed to react (should I ask about it? does she need to talk? do we hug now?), but what I can't wrap my head around is why the next logical step in the average reaction isn't:
"Yeah...I guess rape victims *should* have a voice, even if it makes me uncomfortable."

Anyway, I wanted to throw my thanks onto the pile of well wishers. You're doing good work. I wish you didn't have to get thrown under the bus to do it, but...yeah. Thank you.
