"Just like sex too much?" Oh my goodness! I am still fighting back tears at that line. Seriously, even amongst the "liberals" I sense a huge holding back about pleasure and sex. Except for a few European friends (Dutch, British, French) and one or two Barbadian acquaintances and maybe three Aussies, well, this country seems to have serious issues with sex and sexuality no matter what.

It's odd, because when I'm in "Yankee" land, many people think because I'm a Bluegrass girl and very feminine, that sure enough, I have to be totally fundemental and conservative. Then, they become horrified because I'm a bit of a flirt, (can't help it, it's in my DNA ) or that I come from a long line of cheerleaders, prom queens, beauty queens etc. And at the same time, I am, because I want to be, totally monagamous and fairly traditional in my own life but I have no desire to demand everyone else live and love just like me. Yet, my conservative friends are terribly uncomfortable at times with me, because I am quite realistic about teens and sexuality and yes, grown-ups and sexuality....I was defending the right of a lovely 82 year old lady to date her roommate at the retirement home AND her daughter's right to live openly with her much older boyfriend, as in the daughter was 55, her new paramour, 69!!! It's exhausting, it is crazy, almost no one can have sex or be sexual or have a romantic life due to so many rules. Or what others think. And people are so crazy about it, we just keep our heads in the sand and watch people keep on doing really silly and destructive things. However, we send out so many mixed messages to all of us, the children, the tweens, the teens. the twenty-somethings, the divorced, the gays, the elderly, moms, dads, EVERYONE.

I admire what you do with Scarleteen. Being a trailblazer is tough. Being a compassionate and honest person tougher. And you may truly never know just how many people you have helped, saved, touched, steadied, supported and guided.

Take care,
Jae

In spite of it all (and/or likely because of it), and by your "p.s.", it's nice to see your ability to ask for good "wishes" seems unfazed. For the record, I'll second your wishes (on your behalf). No one I know personally deserves their wishes granted more, in my opinion, given what you've done for others.

Personally, I'd settle for no student loan debt, and my 18 year old head of hair (combined with my 48 year old sense of time flying) back, as well. My ass just needs a walk once in while, thankfully.
